TRD Manufacturing, Inc., was founded in 1987 as a contract machining company for close tolerance lathe and millwork. The company's expertise in high precision machining led to the development of a line of NFPA pneumatic and low pressure hydraulic tie-rod style cylinders. Today, these cylinders are recognized for their durability, high-quality construction and long-lasting performance. The company's key attributes include quick delivery, exceptional quality, the ability to offer customized products and competitive pricing. In January 1998, Bimba Manufacturing Company acquired TRD. The acquisition represented a significant step in Bimba's strategy to expand their industry-leading line of actuators.

TA Series Standard Cylinders

TRD’s standard cylinder offers a high quality, heavy duty construction in an NFPA tie rod style interchangeable design. These actuators are recognized for their durability and long-lasting performance.

TD Series Tough Duty Cylinders

TRD’s TD “Tough-Duty” cylinders provide the same high quality, heavy duty construction as the TA series, with additional performance features standard.

Steel Pneumatic Cylinders

Steel cylinders and components provide extra strength and durability to withstand abuse while maintaining reliable performance.

Steel Air Cylinders (7.4MB)

FM Series Flush Mount Cylinders

Same construction as ‘TA’ series with the added benefit of “Sleeve Nut” construction.

Back-to-Back Cylinders

Back-to-Back cylinders allow the creation of a true four position cylinder by combining two individual cylinders with common bore sizes together as one unit with common tie rods.

Tandem Cylinders

TRD’s tandem cylinders are most commonly used in “air over oil” applications. These applications typically will use air to provide the force to extend and retract the cylinder, while oil provides precise stroke speed control.

3-Position Cylinders

TRD’s 3-Position cylinders consist of two cylinders built as one unit with one rod end, capable of producing three rod positions. By varying the cylinder stroke lengths, stop positions can be suited to any application.

MS Series Multi-Stage Cylinders

TRD’s multi-stage cylinders are able to achieve greater forces in extending, retracting, or both directions by multiplying the output force with additional pistons. Multi-stage cylinders can provide the same output force as larger bore, single stage cylinders while being lower cost.

TRA Triple-Rod Cylinders

TRD’s TRA “Triple Rod” cylinders use three piston rods to increase stability and strength and also feature a non-rotating design.

Air Intensifier

Air to Air intensifiers utilize a single-shot design to increase output force. These designs offer a heavy-duty construction and a simple, worry free design. Intensifiers are commonly used to increase output force and in measuring and dispensing applications.

Micro-Adjust Cylinders

Allows precise adjustment of cylinder extend stroke. Easy to read precision scale (.001” calibration) and enclosed no “pinch point” design. Available on all cylinder models with “D” Double Rod End option. Up to 6” stroke and adjustment.

Air/Oil Tanks

The TRD air/oil system gives you the smooth operation typically associated with hydraulic systems, without the expense! Uses shop air, (2) air/oil tanks, and a cylinder equipped with “TH” (hydraulic seals. Low initial investment and low maintenance to operate!

Auto Reciprocating Air Booster

This 2:1 ratio air-to-air booster is compact and self-contained. Unit incorporates integral valve components to perform auto-reciprocating function. Can amplify inadequate air pressure in the following situations.

Air Reservoir

Stand-alone Air Reservoir from 2-1/2” to 10” bore size. Anodized Aluminum Tube and End Cap, Steel Mounting Bracket construction. Also available in a standard version with an integrally mounted Air Booster.

Telescoping Cylinders

TRD’s telescoping cylinders utilize a two-stage telescoping design which remains 100% double acting while providing incredible space savings.

Rod Lock Cylinders

The RL Series Rod Lock utilizes a 100% ball bearing design, which distributes even locking (clamp-holding) force along the shaft, providing low fatigue on clamping components and no appreciable wear on the piston rod.

NFPA Hydraulic Cylinders

HH Series Heavy Duty Hydraulic

TRD’s HH Series cylinders are precision made to deliver more reliable heavy-duty industrial operations. NFPA dimension design interchanges with competitive models in the field. TRD offers a complete line of hydraulic Rod Locks that can be fitted to the most common bore and rod sizes.

MH Series Medium Pressure Hydraulic

TRD’s MH Series cylinders are precision made to deliver more reliable heavy-duty industrial operations. Many of the same features and seals used in the HH Series are included to increase overall performance and life.

Stainless Steel Cylinders

SS Series Cylinders

TRD’s Stainless Steel cylinders are precision machined from 303/304 stainless steel to provide excellent performance even in harsh environments. Common applications include food processing, chemical, medical, pharmaceutical, and other corrosive environments.

SS-MS Series Multi-Stage Cylinders

The TRD SS Multi-Stage are double acting, single rod end cylinders that multiply the force output by supplying air to multiple pistons. The MSE multiplies the force on the extend stroke, the MSR multiplies the force on the retract stroke. Both models use only one piston on the opposite stroke, saving air volume and operating costs.

SS-TRA Series Heavy Duty Triple-Rod Cylinders

TRD’s “Triple Rod” cylinders use three piston rods to increase stability and strength and also feature a non-rotating design.

Tandem Cylinders

TRD’s tandem cylinders are most commonly used in “air over oil” applications. These applications typically will use air to provide the force to extend and retract the cylinder, while oil provides precise stroke speed control.

TRD’s Round Stainless Steel Cylinders (RS Series) feature NFPA style mounting with a longer than standard NFPA body length and are made using 303/316 stainless steel, providing excellent corrosion resistance. These cylinders have been designed specifically to reduce sharp edges and corners which provide a smooth transition to the cylinder body eliminating catch points for contamination and allow easy cleaning.  The round design is slimmer and fits in tighter spaces than standard NFPA square head designs.

TRD Position Feedback & Control Systems

Position Control System Catalog (1.2MB)

Pneumatic Control System

The TRD Pneumatic Control System (Model PCS) is designed to control any pneumatic TRD position feedback actuator. The system is a closed-loop electronic controller with pneumatic valves that can accurately position the actuator rod and hold it in position with a high degree of accuracy and force. The system accomplishes the long term goal of using pneumatic technology to accurately stop and hold the rod or shaft at any desired position.

Position Feedback Cylinder

The Position Feedback Cylinder (Model PFC) is a linear pneumatic actuator that contains an internal LRT (Linear Resistive Transducer). The PFC can be used for measuring and gauging, positioning, and "on-the-fly" applications. Combine the PFC with the TRD Pneumatic Control System Model PCS, Digital Panel Meter Model DPM, or the Electronic Controller described below to maximize performance.

Bench Top Presses

Bench Top Press Catalog (419kB)

Heavy Duty Bench Top Presses

TRD’s Heavy Duty Bench Top Presses, the BTP Series, combine TRD’s high quality actuators with a heavy duty steel construction press. These presses provide an open work area which allows for through feed or side feed of large parts, and 3 different built-in height settings. The ground tool plate is oversized and removable, which provides precision location of tool plate to press frame.
