ISO Base Mounted Valves

ISO valve-to-base interface standards are internationally recognized and used throughout the world. Valves made for bases conforming to ISO standards are interchangeable without regard to manufacturer. ROSS offers a full line of base-mount valves that conform to the ISO valve-to-base mounting interface standard which specifies the “foot print" of the valve - indicating size and locations of ports, mounting bolts, and maximum valve width. There are two specific interface standards. The ISO 5599/I standard is designed for valves with drop cord electrical connections and the 5599/II standard facilitates plug-in-base electrical connections. Additionally, ROSS is proud to offer valves that conform to the VDMA 24563 interface. The Series W63 size 0 valves are ROSS’ newest base-mount offering. These valves also use drop cord connections. All these valves are available with sub-bases for individual installations and with manifolds for stacking several valves together.

Series W63 Resilient Seal Spool Valves (5599/I)

A light weight aluminum alloy spool is supported by Buna-N seals. The spool is specially treated to minimize breakaway and running friction. The resilient seals assure practically zero leakage between ports. Available in both 2-position and 3-position designs. Designed for use in systems with or without airline lubrication.

Series W64 Poppet Construction (5599/I)

Poppets are face seals which can open or close passage ways without sliding friction or the close tolerances required of spool valves. They don’t build up breakaway resistance due to varnish, and they are highly tolerant of dirty air. ROSS poppet valves have rugged internals and self-adjusting exhaust poppet seats which equalize wear and promote long life. Designed for use in systems with or without air line lubrication. Series W64 poppet valves are available in 2-position designs with either single or double control. Models are also made with special internals for use in high-temperature applications.

Series W65 Metal Spool & Sleeve Valves (5599/II)

SAE Base Mounted Valves

The SAE Standard Interface, though originally developed by U.S. auto companies in the early 1970s, has quickly gained wide acceptance throughout the industry. Due to the design's ruggedness and high-flow characteristics, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) established it as a new standard. This ensures that valves designed to fit the SAE interface will be interchangeable, regardless of manufacturer. In practical terms, the user can change from one brand of valve to another without changing installed bases or manifolds. ROSS valves are available in SAE sizes 125, 250 and 500. Both poppet and metal spool-and-sleeve construction are offered. The valves described in the following bulletin are all solenoid-pilot controlled.

Series 84 5/2 Poppet Valves

Poppets are face sealing valve elements which can open or close passageways without sliding friction or the close tolerances required of spool valves. Poppets don't build up breakaway resistance due to varnish, and are highly tolerant of dirty air. ROSS poppet valves have rugged internals and self-adjusting exhaust poppet seats which equalize wear and promote long life. Designed for use with or without air line lubrication.

Single Control: 5-port, 2-position (5/2) valves that require a maintained signal to keep the valve in its shifted position. Internal air pressure provides the force to return the valve when the signal is removed.

Double Control: 5-port, 2-position (5/2) valves that require only a momentary signal to shift the valve in either direction. A mechanical detent and differential air pressure keep the valve in its shifted position.

Series 80 Matched Spool & Sleeve Valves

The matched spool and sleeve used in each of these valves is made of precision finished, hardened, stainless steel. The spool moves on a micro-inch film of air between spool and sleeve so that wear is minimized. For use in systems with or without air line lubrication.

Single Control: 5-port, 2-position (5/2) valves require a maintained signal to keep the valve shifted. A spring provides the return force after the signal is removed.

Double Momentary Control: 5-port, 2-position (5/2) valves require only a momentary signal to shift the valve in either direction. A mechanical detent keeps the valve in its shifted position.

Closed Center, Double Control: 5-port, 3-position (5/3)valves require a maintained signal to shift the valve in either direction from center. In the center position all ports are closed.

Open Center, Double Control: 5-port, 3-position (5/3)valves require a maintained signal to shift the valve in either direction from center. In the center position the outlet ports are connected to the exhaust ports and the inlet port is closed.

Series 27 Poppet Valves (2/2, 3/2, 4/2)

Valves in this series are available with single or double solenoid pilots or an air head for remote pressure control. Valve elements have end-guided stainless steel stems. Flush flexible manual override buttons are standard on solenoid models. Solenoid models listed in the condensed catalog use an internal pilot supply. They are, however, easily field convertible for use with an external pilot supply. Models for external pilot supply may also be ordered from ROSS. To provide special control functions, most models are also available with the following LOGICAIR® adaptors.

Timed Sequence Adaptor: Allows the actuation and/or deactuation of a valve to be delayed up to 30 seconds for 2/2 valves, and up to 3 seconds for 3/2 and 4/2 valves.

"PB" Adaptor: Increases the actuating force on the valve piston. Useful with low pilot pressure.

Air Index Adaptor: Allows a single control valve to function as an impulse controlled, detented valve. Successive momentary signals from the same source actuate and de-actuate the valve.

"Q" Adaptor: For use in conjunction with the timed sequence adaptor to extend the delay interval up to 60 seconds. The "Q" adaptor also provides quicker response to actuating and deactuating signals.

Series 21 Poppet Valves (2/2, 3/2, 4/2)

Series 21 valves are configured like the Series 27 valves above, but are designed with metal internals and special seals appropriate for use in more extreme temperatures. The valves are designated as either Type H (high temperature) or Type O (low temperature) valves. Temperature specifications for the two types are given below. Solenoid models listed in the condensed catalog use an internal pilot supply. They are, however, easily field convertible for use with an external pilot supply. Models for external pilot supply may also be ordered from ROSS.

Type H (High Temperature) Service: Fluorocarbon seals are used to ensure high temperature stability. Ambient Temperature: Up to 250°F (122°C) for solenoid models; up to 300°F (150°C) for pressure controlled models. Media Temperature: 0° to 300°F (-17° to 150°C).

Type O (Low Temperature) Service: Buna N seals are used to ensure good performance at low temperatures. Ambient Temperature: Down to -40°F (-40°C). Media Temperature: -40° to 175°F (-40° to 80°C). Vacuum Service: The construction of Series 21 valves makes them readily adaptable to vacuum service.

Series 21 Vacuum Service Valves

Vacuum service valves are ideal for lifting, holding, vacuum packaging and moving anything from large objects to tiny particles. They also provide an effective means for leak testing. The vacuum source typically comes from either a vacuum pump or a venturi. In vacuum service applications, the pressure within the valve is reduced below atmospheric pressure. Consequently, atmospheric pressure actually pushes air into the valve, instead of the common belief that air is “sucked” in by the vacuum.

Double Valves & Press Solutions

ROSS Double Valves, also known as “Control-Reliable valves"," Safety valves”, “Press valves”, “SERPAR® valves”, “Crossflow® valves”, and the “Critical Application Valve”, are pneumatic or hydraulic control valves with two valve elements (redundant or dual channel), both of which must operate in order to supply pressure to the outlet port of the valve. The general function of these valves is that of a 3/2 normally closed valve (except for the 5/2 CROSSMIRROR®). The main difference between these widely known double valves and standard solenoid valves, though, is that any condition, which might cause one valve element to not shift along with the other, results in no output to the work device. The outlet port, in this situation, is connected to exhaust and the supply inlet is closed.

CROSSMIRROR® Series-77 3/2 & 5/2 Double Valves

The patented CROSSMIRROR® dynamic monitoring system and dual valve design combine to handle the most stringent of safety-related applications for pneumatic equipment – Category 4 safety-related applications. The internal dynamic monitor checks the valve on each cycle and includes an automatic lock-out function to inhibit further operation of the valve. The CROSSMIRROR® is available with remote reset or integrated solenoid reset. Both reset types are “tamper-proof” and the valve cannot be reset while the main valve solenoids are energized. Also, the reset function cannot be over-ridden by removing and reapplying the valve's electrical or pneumatic energy sources. Removing the inlet air supply causes the valve to lock-out, and, therefore, the valve must be reset after the air supply is reapplied.

SERPAR® Crossflow Series-35 Double Valves

The design of the SERPAR® Crossflow double valve is distinguished by crossflow passages and spool valving on the main valve stems. This arrangement provides the valve's unique flow characteristics. Self-contained monitors, designed to inhibit valve operation in case of a fault within the valve, are built into the valve assemblies of sizes 4, 8, 12, and 30 valves. There are three types of ROSS monitors available: pneumatic (L-G), electro-pneumatic (E-P), and electronic (D-S). Crossflow valves are also available with pressure switches for incorporation into press control systems with external monitors.

SERPAR® Crossflow Double Valves w/ Dual Monitoring

These dual-monitored valves are based on the proven technology of the SERPAR® Crossflow family of double valves, adding independent signal sources and redundant monitoring to meet CSA Z142 (Canadian Standards Association) requirements for safety circuit performance. Incorporating both ROSS’ L-G and E-P monitoring systems provides redundancy in monitoring through two separate, dissimilar monitors. The actuating solenoids are wired independently through a double-pole, double-throw switch in the E-P monitor. These new SERPAR® Crossflow Double Valves with Dual Monitoring are available in sizes 8, 12, and 30, with port sizes ranging from 1/2 to 2. The valves mount inline via removable flanges, and are available with or without manual overrides.

DM² SERPAR® Crossflow w/ TOTAL Dynamic Monitoring & Memory

The DM² is a patented 3/2 normally closed valve (with an intermediate, lock-out position) distinguished by Crossflow® passages with poppet and spool valving on the main valve stems. This arrangement provides the valve’s outstanding flow characteristics and an integrated monitoring capability with TOTAL memory. The valve provides:

DYNAMIC MONITORING means that all monitoring components change state on every valve cycle. Should the valve elements cycle asynchronously, the valve will lock out.

DYNAMIC MEMORY is a monitoring system that locks out the valve, to prevent further operation, whenever the valve elements cycle asynchronously either on actuation or deactuation. The DM² system can only be reset by a defined operation, and will not self-reset or reset when inlet air supply is removed and re-applied. Such automatic resetting would conceal potential hazards from the operator.

Flow Control Valves

Flow control valves are used to control air flow from air cylinders, thereby controlling the speeds at which the pistons in the cylinders move. They allow free flow in one direction and adjustable, precision controlled flow in the other direction. Right angle flow control valves function like those described above. However, their compact right angle design permits use where conventional straight-through flow controls might be undesirable.

Shuttle Valves

ROSS shuttle valves have two inlets and one outlet. The first inlet to be pressurized is connected to the outlet, and the second inlet is then closed. Thus, a pneumatic device connected to the shuttle outlet can be operated by either of two control valves connected to the shuttle inlets.

Check Valves & Quick Exhaust Check Valves

Pilot-Operated Check Valves

Pilot-Operated Check Valves are used to block the return of air from cylinders or other devices. Air flows freely from port 1 to port 2, but a signal at port 12 is required to allow flow in the reverse direction from port 2 to port 1. Can be used wherever a high-flow or remotely-controlled checking function is needed. Can be used in a circuit to provide automatic stopping of a cylinder in the event of the loss of electrical or pneumatic power. Also available with an Automatic exhausting function, Remote and Manual Trapped Pressure Relief Function, or Solenoid Pilot Dual P.O. Check.  Available in the following variations:

Type A Single P.O. Check Valve

Type B Single P.O. Check Valve

ROSS SYSTEM PLUS is a totally modular concept which offers the choice of pneumatic or electric actuation, with guidance and control modules to suit the exact needs of individual installations. The actuators at the core of the system all have a common aluminum extruded profile, with double dovetail mounting rails on three sides. These are the principle building blocks of the system to which all modular options are directly attached.

Aluminum Roller Guides 468 (PDF 1.1MB)

Aluminum roller guides provide smooth operation and high load carrying capacity for industrial automation. By the use of lightweight aluminum components, the moving masses are minimized, travel speeds are increased, and actuation energy is saved. Aluminum roller guides are designed to carry medium weight loads economically. Their smooth action and speeds up to 10 m/s make them ideal for widespread use in many areas of application.
